After holding steadfast in Iraq, lawmaking conservatives in name only are abandoning ship. Why should we care about staying? Because we made the mess, and made a
promise. That simple. But also, because
it's the smarter thing to do. And also because it's the
moral thing to do, remember those?
The New York Times reports:
Hoshyar Zebari, the foreign minister, sounded a similar warning at a
Baghdad news conference on Monday. “The dangers vary from civil war to
dividing the country or maybe to regional wars,” he said, referring to
an American withdrawal. “In our estimation the danger is huge. Until
the Iraqi forces and institutions complete their readiness, there is a
responsibility on the U.S. and other countries to stand by the Iraqi
government and the Iraqi people to help build up their capabilities.”
The Dallas Morning News Editorial:
The likely
outcome is an unacceptable mix of civil war, chaos, massive bloodshed
and potentially direct military confrontation involving Iran, Syria,
Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Do our best thinkers on Capitol Hill really
believe that's preferable to the status quo?
General Petraeus, in the New York Daily News said:
...as Sunni tribes in Diyala, Salah ad Din and Ninevah Provinces turn against al Qaeda and its extremist affiliates.... We're beginning to see a revolt of the middle against both extremes.
And to the chagrin of the New York Treason Times Editorial staff, The Daily Standard references John Burns report in the Times stating:
A year after a Marine intelligence report described the region as
"lost," Burns explains "an astonishing success" in what was "Iraq's
most dangerous city." Now, cooperation between local tribal leaders and
the U.S. military "has all but ended the fighting in Ramadi and recast
the city as a symbol of hope that the tide of war may yet be reversed
to favor the Americans and their Iraqi allies." Victory, in Burns'
assessment, is a long way off, but is possible.
Even the Socialist BBC astonishly reported in it's news:
the real battle was no longer in cities like Baquba which American
troops had just liberated from Al-Qeada but in Washington where
patience was running out.
Patience, or courage?Maybe the Mainstream Media and an American General are hard to believe. Maybe rightly so. But consider the news from the ground in Iraq. Michael Yon, reporting from the scene with the troops, says Iraqis are now realizing the time has come:
The big news on the streets today is that the people of Baqubah are
generally ecstatic, although many hold in reserve a serious concern
that we will abandon them again. For many Iraqis, we have morphed from
being invaders to occupiers to members of a tribe. I call it the “al
Ameriki tribe,” or “tribe America.”...the Iraqis can no longer deny that we really do want them to
succeed. But we want them to succeed without us. We want to see their
streets are clean and safe, their grass is green, and their birds are
singing. We want to see that on television. Not in person. We don’t
want to be here. We tell them that every day. It finally has settled in
that we are telling the truth.
Now that all those realizations and more have settled in, the dynamics here are changing in palpable ways.

And as Mookie Sadr runs away to Iran once again, the Democrats and Conservatives in name Only are stepping up to attempt to defeat this Republic in it's effort to create stability in Iraq, and momentum in the region against the forces that killed 3000 of us on 9/11 and who would gladly use nuclear weapons on the West if they could.
So lets pull out stakes and come home? And you're conservatives?
